My environmental photography includes a personal perspective about the aftermath of fire and the change that the conflagration created on the natural environment and the man-made environment. My images are based on my home and surroundings after my wife and I fought for our world during the Black Saturday fires. I attempt to capture the transformation of a new reality in the cold light of the morning after. My photographs endeavour to express the new forms of the destroyed into a hopeful beauty of a new beginning.

As you may have noticed over the past few months, emails and funnies have been a bit sparse from our end of the internet. Many have written us, asking how things are going and as to our wellbeing - many thanks. We are both well and extremely busy putting our lives back together, following the Firestorms of the 7th of February 2009.

Sometime after the fires we were asked to put together a story with pictures for a proposed new website produced by Regional Arts Victoria (RAV), the Country Fire Authority (CFA) and the Department of Sustainability (DSE). Ursula then produced a Power Point Presentation (Low Res PDF version attached 2MB). You will find the attached PDF is an excellent summary of the events of the day, both in a narrative and in pictures.

Would have been nice to include some pictures of the actual fire, however I seem to remember things were extremely busy at the time!

On Friday 5th of February, 2010. Mr. Ted Ballieu MLA Shadow Minister for the Arts and Gary Blackwood MP joined us at Queen’s Hall Parliament House to celebrate an official presentation of Fields of View a touring exhibition going to several Victorian Regional Art Galleries and the Launch of a new arts movements ‘ Environmental Expressionism. Artists Ursula and Werner Theinert, Peter Biram, Leonie Ryan and Kerrie Warren, have passionately created a body of work based on the Black Saturday Fires that raged through regional Victoria on the 7th of February 2009.
